What is EEOC compliance?

In the United States, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that prohibit employment discrimination against job applicants and employees based on protected characteristics such as race, gender, and religion. These laws apply to companies of certain sizes and are rigorously enforced by the EEOC.


Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 explicitly states that it is illegal to discriminate against an employee or job applicant based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. This legislation covers both public and private employers and applies to various employment practices, including hiring, termination, promotion, training, wages, and benefits.

Who is required to report EEO-1 Component 1 reports?

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) requires companies within the following categories to file EEO-1 reports annually:

  • Private employers with 100 or more employees.
  • Private employers with fewer than 100 employees that are affiliated with, or owned by, a parent company with more than 100 employees overall.
  • Federal contractors or first-tier subcontractors with 50 or more employees and contracts of $50,000 or more (Executive Order 11246).
  • Organizations with 50 or more employees serving as a depository of government funds, or a financial institution that is an issuing and paying agent for U.S. savings bonds and savings notes.

What are the job categories for EEO-1 reporting?

The EEO-1 report requires employers to submit workforce demographic data, including employee information by race/ethnicity, sex, and job category, for both full-time and part-time employees.
