The Unemployment Insurance State Information Data Exchange System (UI SIDES) is a digital platform created to simplify the exchange of data between unemployment insurance (UI) agencies, employers, and TPAs. The UI SIDES platform is designed to help employers conveniently achieve compliance with the Unemployment Insurance Integrity Act (UI Integrity Act).
UI SIDES facilitates quick, accurate communication between state agencies, employers, and their TPAs. By using UI SIDES, state agencies can electronically request information from employers and TPAs, forgoing the traditional lengthy mail processes. By circumventing paper mail, UI SIDES not only increases the speed of transmitting claims, it heavily reduces fraud and promotes accuracy and security throughout the UI claim lifecycle.
Streamlining Data Through the State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES)
UI SIDES has six components, known as exchanges, that make up the full SIDES solution. Each exchange supports a specific step in the lifecycle of an unemployment insurance claim.
The Separation Information Exchange uses an automated system to alleviate paper mail correspondence, which is very time-consuming, labor-intensive, and rife with fraud. This process guarantees complete responses with all requested data, reducing improper payments and payment rates by sending timely and comprehensive information to state agencies.
The Monetary and Potential Charges (MPC) Exchange electronically notifies employers of wages used to set up a claim, which allows employers to verify the correct wages used. This reduces potential improper payments, which prevents increases to the employer's UI tax rate.
The Additional Fact-Finding (ADF) Exchange allows states to communicate with employers and TPAs electronically. This exchange eliminates delays, reduces communication time, and removes the need for mail or fax.
The Determinations & Decisions (DD) Exchange sends non-monetary decisions to employers electronically. This reduces the chances of improper payments and expedites the appeals process.
The Earnings Verifications (EV) Exchange automates audits and responses by delivering requests and outstanding tasks. This allows notifications to be received electronically. It enables early detection of improper payments, minimizing the likelihood of payout.
The Benefits Charges (BC) Exchange assists with identifying improper payments and allows for the electronic notifications of charge notices at the end of each billing cycle.
